Description
38 Potter Hill is a building dating from the 18th century or early 19th century. It is two storeys high, constructed of coursed stone with a pantile roof featuring a flat stone verge and a shaped corbel on the right side. The building has three brick chimneys and four windows, which have stone lintels with keystones, and are fitted with hung sashes that include glazing bars. The corners of the building are accentuated with rusticated quoins, and there is a stone eaves cornice.
On the ground floor, there are two 19th-century bay windows supported by plain pilasters, and a rendered plinth. To the right, there is a yard door that has a rectangular fanlight below a blocked stone fanlight, with a lintel that also features a keystone. To the left, another door has a lintel with a keystone and a rectangular fanlight, accessed by steps.
This building is part of a group that includes Nos 35 to 37, Mount Royd, Nos 38 to 40, St Joseph's Presbytery, the Roman Catholic Church of St Joseph, the Church Hall, and Nos 44 to 47, with Nos 35, 37, and Mount Royd being of local interest.
