Description

This is an 18th or early 19th century house located on Potter Hill. The two-storey building is constructed of coursed stone with a pantile roof, featuring a flat stone verge and shaped corbels at the eaves. Two brick stacks are visible at the gable ends. The corners have rusticated quoins. The facades originally had three windows, each with stone lintels and keystones; these windows lack glazing bars. Mid-19th century splayed bay windows were added to the ground floor. A wooden doorcase, featuring grooved pilasters, an open pediment, and console brackets, frames the centrally located entrance. A dentil cornice tops the building. The front door, consisting of six panels, is reached by three steps and is protected by a semicircular fanlight. The house is part of a group that includes numbers 35 and 37, Mount Royd, and other buildings of local interest related to St Joseph’s Church.
