Description

Carlton House is an early 19th-century house situated just off Kirkgate in Middleham. The building is constructed of brick in an English garden wall bond and coursed stone, with a stone slate roof. It is two storeys high with a basement and comprises three bays. Raised ashlar quoins define the corners.

The stone basement contains two segmental-arched windows, each with an impost band, leading to a long flight of stone steps that ascend to the central, half-glazed ground-floor door enclosed within a plain stone surround. The ground and first-floor windows are sash windows with glazing bars, featuring stone cills and lintels. A moulded eaves cornice runs around the building, and it incorporates shaped kneelers and an ashlar coping. Brick end stacks are present, with the left-hand stack being renewed.
