Description

Waterford House is an early 19th-century house located on the west side of Kirkgate in Middleham. It is constructed of rubble with a stone slate roof. The house has a three-storey, L-shaped plan, originally comprising one and two bays. To the left is a projecting range with quoins. The ground floor of this range features a sandstone ashlar canted bay window with four-pane sashes and a lead roof. Above are four-pane sash windows set within moulded surrounds, with the second-floor windows being smaller. The main range to the right has a part-glazed door within a sandstone ashlar doorcase featuring engaged Doric columns. Adjoining the door is a canted bay window identical to that on the left wing. Above the door, there are two bays of windows matching the style of those on the left wing. The right end of the house has shaped kneelers and an ashlar coping. Brick ridge stacks are positioned between bays 2 and 3, and at the right end.
