Description
Lowfields Park is a house dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with some 20th-century alterations. It is built of painted ashlar and has a slate roof. The house features a central staircase plan and is two storeys high with three bays. The central entrance is framed by a Queen Anne Revival porch added around 1910, which has a Gibbs surround, a round head, and a keystone, along with a round-headed hood supported by scrolled wooden consoles. The porch also has a dentilled cornice and a traceried fanlight.
The original entrance to the house is adorned with Tuscan pilasters that have chamfered edges, a base, and capitals, topped with a pediment over a plain cornice; it includes a glazed door from around 1910. The projecting ground floor, built at the same time as the porch, features a five-light window with wooden mullions and transoms on either side, along with a dentilled cornice beneath a lean-to hipped roof. There is a string course on the upper floor, where three windows have revealed sashes and external shutters. The building also has quoins, a cornice, shaped kneelers, and gable end coping, as well as gable end ridge stacks. A central leaded cupola with a weather vane sits atop the house.
To the left side, a projecting two-storey bay was added around 1910, which has a later semi-octagonal conservatory against the gable and the wing. At the rear, there is a large central staircase window with a plain surround, a round head, impost blocks, a keystone, and two transoms. Inside, the staircase features deep treads, likely from the 18th century, with later broadly spaced stick balusters and a wreathed handrail.
