Description

Scaleber Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse, with alterations from the 19th and 20th centuries. The exterior is pebbledashed with rendered dressings and a slate roof. The gable end facing the road has a two-storey, two-bay design. The right-hand entrance features a moulded surround and a decorated lintel, heavily weathered but retaining some initials, 'AA'. A hoodmould above the entrance is partially hidden by a single-storey extension added in the 1960s. To the left of the entrance is a 20th-century window with four-pane sashes. Above the entrance is a recessed flat-faced mullioned window with two lights, also from the 20th century, containing casements. A gable-end stack is visible along the ridge. On the left-hand return, the ground floor retains evidence of two 17th-century two-light chamfered windows, and the upper floor has four similar windows, all now rendered and fitted with 20th-century casements, where the original mullions have been removed. Above the upper floor windows, a dripmould has been cut and raised to accommodate a large, inserted three-light window with rendered, flat-faced mullions containing casements. Inside, the passage features a basket-arched entrance with a moulded surround.
