Description
Castle Howard Reservoir basin and pedestal are located at the center of the reservoir and date from the 1720s. They are part of a landscape design for Ray Wood, likely by S. Switzer. The basin is made of ashlar and is circular, measuring approximately 30 meters in diameter. At its center stands a rectangular pedestal on a moulded base, featuring raised square panels and a moulded cornice. This site is noted in Hussey C's "English Gardens and Landscapes," published in 1967, and is included in the Register of Parks and Gardens of special historic interest in England, Part 32, North Yorkshire: Castle Howard, which is designated as Grade I.
