Description

Cascade, built around 1850 by W A Nesfield, is located at the west end of South Lake in Castle Howard. It is constructed from millstone grit and features an upper pool that is square in shape with rounded corners, leading to a cascade that flows into a square lower pool. The cascade is adorned with rusticated bands, and the low chamfered walls on either side end in square piers topped with stepped cornices. The site is included in the Register of Parks and Gardens of special historic interest in England, specifically noted for its significance in North Yorkshire at Castle Howard, which is designated as Grade I.
