Description
The Kings Head Hotel is a hotel dating from the mid-18th century, with earlier origins. It features hammer-dressed sandstone that is partially covered in creepers, set on a rubble plinth, and has a pantile roof with rebuilt brick stacks. The building has a three-cell, through-passage plan, with an earlier rear wing to the left. It is two stories high and has a four-window front, with chamfered quoins.
The entrance, located to the right of the center, is segmental-arched and includes voussoirs and quoined jambs, accessed by stone steps. The entrance has a 20th-century half-glazed partition, double doors, and a fanlight with glazing bars. There is a canted bay with sash windows at the left end, and throughout the building, there are 12-pane sashes with stone sills in flat, squared surrounds. The first floor is raised, and there is a cavetto-moulded eaves cornice. The gables are coped, with cyma recta moulded kneelers, and there are stacks at both ends and in the center.
Inside, there is a 17th-century re-used closed string, open well staircase with turned balusters located at the rear of the room to the left. Additionally, early 18th-century square panelling has been re-used in the bar to the right.
