Description
Number 56A is a cottage with attached stables and outbuildings, built around 1800 and altered in the 19th century. It features dressed stone with ashlar dressings and a slate roof with ashlar coped gables and three stone stacks. The building is two stories high. The north front, which faces a courtyard, has ten irregularly spaced openings. On the left, there is a large flat-headed entrance archway with a timber lintel, followed by a doorway to Number 56A that has a part-glazed four-panel door in a flush ashlar surround, flanked by single 16-pane glazing bar sashes. Above this doorway are four similar glazing bar sashes. To the right, there are a pair of doorways in flush ashlar surrounds with overlights and boarded doors, flanked by single stable windows, and above are two outer openings, one boarded and the other with a later 16-pane glazing. Next is the coach house, which has a pair of double plank doors with an overlight and above them, a pair of part-glazed taking-in doors. Beyond this, there are two plank doors, the right one with an overlight, and an external stone staircase leading to a plank upper door with two windows to the left. These buildings were constructed to serve the Paris Pavilion and its Cold Water Bath.
