Description
A terrace of three cottages, originally four, dated to the early 19th century. The cottages are built of ashlar stone with stone dressings, and have slate roofs. They feature two brick ridge stacks and one brick gable stack to the west, along with a prominent stepped eaves band. Each cottage is two storeys high, with a single bay. A central through passage connects the cottages. Nos. 55 and 57 were formerly separate cottages but have been combined into a single dwelling. Each cottage has a raised doorcase with a plain entablature and a 20th-century door. Nos. 51 and 53 each have a window to the west of the doorcase, set within a tooled flat stone arch with a central keystone; the window at No. 51 is a 20th-century casement, while that at No. 53 is a glazing-bar sash window. The central passage also has a similar lintel, and to the east, the windows at Nos. 55 and the former No. 57 have glazing-bar casements, the one at No. 55 set within a matching lintel, and the former No. 57 window beneath a 20th-century plain wedge lintel. Above the central passage is a narrow, blocked opening with a tooled flat stone arch, flanked on either side by pairs of similar openings: those to the east have glazing-bar casements, and those to the west have a glazing-bar sash at No. 53 and a 20th-century casement at No. 51. The buildings are listed for their group value.
