Description
14 Market Place is a house and cottage that have been combined into one dwelling. The building dates from the late 18th century and early 19th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. It features rendered brick with painted stone dressings and a plain tile roof, which has brick gable stacks. Notable architectural details include a moulded stone cornice on No 14 and a dentilled brick eaves band on the former cottage.
No 14 has two storeys plus a basement and consists of two bays. The former cottage, attached to the west, is lower in height, with two storeys and a single bay. There are steps leading up to a central doorcase that has pilasters and a moulded cornice, with a 20th-century door. To the east, there is a 20th-century bow window, while to the west, there is a glazing bar sash window set beneath a rusticated wedge lintel with a keystone. Above, there are two similar sash windows. The former cottage features a 20th-century panelled door and a large 20th-century small pane window to the west, with a similar window above.
This building is included in the register for its group value.
