SE 37 NE BALDERSBY WIDE HOWE LANE (north side) Baldersby St James 3/28 Outbuilding of Old Vicarage approximately 7 metres to north of house - GV II
Coach house and stables to the Old Vicarage, now outbuilding.c1854. By William Butterfield as part of the estate for Viscount Downe of Baldersby Park. Snecked stone with ashlar dressings, red brick extension, Westmorland slate roof with tile ridge and stone stack with ashlar bands. High Victorian style, one and a half storeys, 5 bays. Facade from left: C20 garage door; plank door with strap hinges; 2-light iron casement with 6 panes under segmental brick arch; plank door with strap hinges in wood surround under segmental brick arch; 3-light iron casement with 9 panes under segmental brick arch; former privy under lean-to roof to right; narrow 6-pane casement. Loft entrance above centre door of vertical planks and strap hinges under hipped dormer. Half-hipped roof with stack straddling ridge. Right return is a single-storey lean-to and has 2 wooden plank doors under segmental arches.
