Description

This is a mile-post located adjacent to the north-east corner of Catterick Bridge, dating from the late 19th century. It is made of cast iron and has a triangular shape. On the left side, there is a hand pointing right with the inscription "CATTERICK 1 MILE." On the right side, a hand points left with the words "PEIRCE-BRIDGE [10½ MILES]." The top of the mile-post features the inscription "HANG EAST HD." This mile-post was installed after the Highways Act of 1888.
