Description
Clarendon House and its front railings date from the mid-18th century. The house is rendered with ashlar dressings and features a stone slate roof. It has three storeys and three bays. The central entrance consists of a part-glazed door set within a moulded, eared stone surround, which includes a bolection frieze and a pediment. The windows are four-pane sash types, with canted bay windows from the 19th century flanking the door, both topped with lead roofs. The first and second-floor windows are framed in moulded ashlar surrounds; the window above the door is eared and supported by two corbels, while the second-floor windows are half the size of those below. There is a moulded sill band at the second floor, shaped kneelers, ashlar copings, and end stacks. To the left of the main house is a two-storey lower range with one bay, featuring windows in plain surrounds and a hipped roof. In front of the house, there is a low wall made of coursed rubble topped with ashlar coping, which supports wrought-iron railings with alternating wavy and plain bars, and urn finials on the standards. The centre of the railings has two simple ashlar gate-piers and a gate made of plain bars with arrow finials.
