Description
West Farmhouse and West Farm Cottage are a farmhouse and cottage dating from the mid to late 17th century and early 19th century. They are constructed from rubble with stone slate roofs and are two storeys high, featuring a two-bay farmhouse to the right and a four-bay cottage to the left.
The farmhouse, which is from the mid to late 17th century, has a ground floor that includes a part-glazed 4-panel door set in an ashlar chamfered surround with a shallow Tudor arch above the lintel in the second bay. To the left and right of the door are double-chamfered cross windows. On the first floor, from left to right, there is a 2-light double-chamfered mullion window, a double-chamfered oculus glazed with small panes, a modern two-light casement window, and another 2-light double-chamfered mullion window. The right side features a shaped kneeler with an early type of profile. The farmhouse has end stacks, with the left stack made of ashlar and corniced, while the right has a brick superstructure.
The cottage is slightly taller and has a board door in a slightly-raised ashlar surround to the right. Above the door is a first-floor sash window with the inscription "GB" on the lintel. To the left, there is a ground-floor 4-pane sash window and a first-floor 4-pane casement window, both with ashlar projecting sills and deep lintels. The cottage has broken kneelers and ashlar coping, with a brick stack at the left end. At the time of the resurvey, the cottage was empty.
