Description
This is a mile post dating from the 17th century, which has been reset in stone from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It stands about 1 metre high and has a square shape with a chamfered top. The four sides of the post display inscriptions in an anti-clockwise direction: "TO Settle 13M," "TO SKIPTON 1M," and "TO CLITHEROE 17M." The side facing Skipton has an outline of a hand pointing to the left, while the Clitheroe side features a similar hand pointing to the right. The side marked 'Settle' is styled in a 17th-century manner, with three flowers on stems incised below, although only two are now visible due to being partially obscured by a wall to the south.
