Description
No. 3 King Street is an early 19th century former hotel and public house. The building has four storeys and is constructed of painted brick. It features a low pitch gable end slate roof with a shallow eaves band. The upper floors have four windows, with those on the right possibly indicating a later extension. There are brick bands over the first and second floors, and a sill course on the first floor. The recessed sash windows have flat stucco arches, and the glazing bars remain intact on the right side. The first floor displays anthemion flower guards and blind cases. On the ground floor, there are two windows with raised surrounds, and a central door made up of four moulded panels topped with a semi-circular fanlight. The doorcase is adorned with panelled pilasters and heavy console brackets supporting a cornice, all of which are Victorian in style. To the right, garage doors have been inserted into what was once a shop front, flanked by brackets on the cornice. This building is listed for its group value, as it forms a group with Nos. 31, 32, and 34 to 43 Newborough.
