Description
The George Hotel, located at No 26 Newborough, is a Grade II listed building that was originally an 18th-century coaching inn. It was significantly enlarged in the early to mid-19th century, with later alterations. The hotel features a five-storey stucco front, which includes a string course at the first floor, a sill course at the second floor, a band above, and another sill course at the fourth floor. The roof has a low pitch and flat eaves. The upper floors have five windows, with recessed sash windows that retain their glazing bars above the first floor. The centre windows on this floor are tripartite, and all windows have architraves. The ground floor has a modern shop front and entrance. At the rear, there is a three-storey wing made of painted brick, which has three symmetrical windows with glazing bars, a pilaster-framed door, and irregular fenestration on the right and left.
