Description
22 King Street is an early 19th century building, possibly recased. It has a two-storey stucco front featuring a cornice and blocking course. On the first floor, there are two windows with glazing bar sashes set in architrave surrounds. The ground floor, which may have been a shop or public house, has three large lights and a door flanked by Doric pilasters, a panelled frieze, and a block cornice topped with three acroteria. The side elevation leading to the passage is rendered and has flat eaves. At the far end, there are three windows and a central set of double doors made up of six fielded panels, topped with a three-pane fanlight and scrolled brackets supporting the cornice above. Inside, there is an open string staircase with linked scrolls between the bannisters and a moulded rail. The Brewery Stores and Nos 21 to 24, which are adjacent, form a group with this building.
