Description

This is an early 19th-century building on Burgate. It is two storeys high and constructed of coursed rubble, topped with a pantile roof, stone coped gable ends with kneelers, and features two brick stacks. A cavetto eaves cornice runs along the roofline, and the corners are emphasized by stone rusticated quoins. The building originally had three windows, which are now hung sashes without glazing bars, each set beneath a stone lintel with a keystone. The ground floor has been altered with two late 19th-century canted bays. The front door consists of six fielded panels, four of which are glazed, and is set within a doorway with plain pilasters and a flat hood supported by brackets. Above the door is a blocked radiating semi-circular fanlight. The building forms a group with numbers 1 to 15 and 17 to 21 on Burgate, as well as numbers 30 to 40, with several other buildings within that group being of local interest.
