Description

This is an 18th-century building located on Castlegate. It is two storeys high and constructed of painted, coursed stone with a pantile roof, stone coped gable ends, and kneelers. There are two brick stacks. The front elevation originally featured two hung sash windows without glazing bars; one window remains on the ground floor, set beneath a stone lintel with a keystone. An early to mid-19th century shop front has been inserted, incorporating large glazing bars, plain pilasters, and a cornice. The entrance features a four-panel door also beneath a stone lintel with a keystone. Nos. 1 to 5 Castlegate form a group.
