Description
Devonshire House is a house and shop built around 1830 as one of a pair, alongside The Cottage. It is constructed of roughly dressed rubble stone with stone dressings and a slate roof. The building has two storeys and two bays. The left-hand entrance has a simple surround and moulded hood; the original six-panel door has been altered, with the upper half now glazed. A 20th-century shop front is located on the right. A single window on the upper floor to the right has a plain surround, projecting sill, and sash windows. Corbels below the eaves cornice are similar in design to those used by Rickman at the Church of the Holy Ascension in 1838. Chimneys are located on the left-hand ridge and right-hand gable end. The interior features a fine stone Gothic Revival fire surround.
