Description

Winsley Cottage is a Grade II listed building located in Hartwith-cum-Winsley, dating from the mid to late 18th century, with a possible earlier wing. It has been refenestrated in the mid-19th century. The structure is built of coursed squared gritstone and features a graduated stone slate roof.

The main block is two stories high and has three bays, facing south, with quoins at the corners. The central entrance is a glazed door set within a 19th-century stone porch. Above the door is a four-pane sash window, while the other windows are six-pane sashes, all framed in eared architraves. Additional architectural details include stone gutter brackets, shaped kneelers, gable copings, three small roof lights, and end corniced stacks.

At the rear, there is a tall two-light staircase window with two transoms. The rear wing, which is two stories and three bays, features a 19th-century or later porch on the east side and three-light flat-faced mullion windows. It also has shaped kneelers, gable coping, and ridge stacks located at the far right and between the first and second bays. The interior has not been inspected, and the rear wing is separately roofed, possibly indicating it is the earlier house on the site.
