Description

High Stores House is a Grade II listed building located on Main Street in Hampsthwaite. Originally three cottages, it has been converted into a single house and dates from the late 18th century to the early 19th century. The structure is built of coursed squared gritstone and features roofs made of concrete pantiles, stone slates, and purple slates.

The building has a three-storey central bay flanked by two-storey bays, with quoins on either side of the central bay. In the first bay, there are steps leading down to a glazed cellar door, and a stone-mullioned canted bay window on the ground floor, with a 16-pane casement window in a stone surround above it, all under a pantile roof. The second bay has a blocked door with tie-stone jambs on the left, which now has a sash window with glazing bars. To the right, there is a three-storey canted bay window featuring sashes with glazing bars on the front and fixed windows with glazing bars on the sides. This bay also has shaped kneelers, gable copings, and a banded stack to the right, with a stone slate roof. The third bay includes a six-panel door in a plain surround on the left, a sash window with glazing bars on the ground and first floors to the right, and a banded stack to the right, all beneath a slate roof. The interior was not inspected during the resurvey.
