Description
The Old Mill is a water mill built in the early 19th century, with a conversion that took place in the mid-20th century. It is constructed from coursed squared gritstone and features a grey slate roof with an eaves course of stone slates. The building has three storeys and four bays, with quoins at the corners. A 20th-century glazed door is located in the second bay, and there are 9-pane casement windows throughout, set below plain lintels. The window in the third bay on the first floor has been blocked. The mill has stone butter brackets, shaped kneelers, and gable copings. There is a banded stack on the left and the base of a large chimney stack on the right. Originally, the mill was built over the Cockhill beck, but the water wheel was removed when the mill was converted to steam power.
