Description
No 15 on Kirkgate is a warehouse that has been converted into a factory. It dates from the mid-18th century and has undergone some alterations in the 19th century. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and coursed squared limestone, topped with a stone slate roof. It stands three storeys tall and has six bays. There is a 20th-century door to the left and a half-glazed door to the right. The ground and first floors feature side-sliding sash windows, while the second floor has sashes with small panes. Some windows are completely or partially blocked, and all openings have shallow segmental arches in headers. The roof is hipped, with stacks located at the north-east corner and at the centre of the south side.
At the rear, there is a two-storey, three-bay brick addition from the 19th century that is built against the limestone facade. The openings in this addition are similar in size and shape to those at the front, but there are some blind windows on the ground floor. All openings have keyed lintels. The left return is made of brick and has a blocked doorway from a now-demolished building. The right return features limestone with inserted double doors and a large loading door above.
Inside, the building has large chamfered cross beams on both floors, and the western two bays have narrow floorboards where a hoisting mechanism was removed around 1970.
