Description
This building, now a house, was originally a dispensary constructed in 1853. It is located within Knaresborough Castle Yard, on the north side. Constructed from millstone grit, it features a Westmorland slate roof. The building is two storeys high and has three bays, with the central bay projecting. The main entrance is through a four-panel door set within a portico of Tuscan columns that support an entablature with triglyphs, a dentilled cornice, and a triangular pediment. Throughout the building, there are 8-pane casement windows set within stone architraves. The upper levels display shaped brackets and kneelers, a moulded eaves cornice, and a corniced triangular pediment over the central bay. A stone coping runs along the roofline, punctuated by corniced end stacks. An inscription within the triangular pediment reads “DISPENSARY. ERECTED IN MEMORY OF THE LATE VICAR THE REV. A CHEAP LLB. MDCCCLIII”.
