Description

This is a mid-18th century row of three houses, later used as a restaurant, with alterations from the 19th century. The building is constructed of painted brick and rendered surfaces, topped with Westmorland slate roofs. It has three storeys and five first-floor windows. The row is composed of a single-bay house to the left, and a two-bay central and right-hand block, with the central and right blocks stepped forward. The two right-hand blocks have been significantly altered, featuring a 20th-century shop front and a 19th-century bay window to the ground floor, alongside 19th-century windows above. Bands and cornices are also present. The single-bay house to the left has quoins on its left side. The ground and first floors feature canted-bay-sash windows. The second floor has a Venetian window; the central sash retains glazing bars, while the flanking lights are blocked within a stone architrave. A moulded eaves cornice runs along the top. There is a hipped roof. The left return side is of coursed squared limestone. The right return side has two windows to each floor, most of which are partially or completely blocked. Again, a moulded eaves cornice is present. A three-storey, three-window block is located to the left, featuring a 20th-century door with an overlight and a quoined surround. The windows are sashes with glazing bars in flush frames, with projecting sills and flat arches. Some windows have been replaced or are casements from the 20th century.
