Description
No. 17 Market Place is a house that has been converted into shop premises, dating from the mid-18th century. The building is rendered and features a graduated Westmorland slate roof. It stands three storeys high with two bays and occupies a corner site that faces the main market square, with a wide gable end oriented towards the south-east. The structure has a limestone plinth and quoins at the corner. The shop entrance and window are of 20th-century design, while the first and second floors have 4-pane sash windows set in flush frames. A band runs along the second-floor level. The roof is adorned with shaped kneelers, ashlar copings, and tabled brick stacks. On the left side, there are 20th-century entrances and a shop window, along with two 4-pane sash windows on the first, second, and attic floors.
