Description
No. 21 Market Place is a house that has been converted into a shop, dating from the early to mid-18th century. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and features a Westmorland slate roof. The building stands three storeys high and has one bay. The entrance on the left consists of a 20th-century glazed door with an overlight above. The shop window in the centre is a three-light design with plate glass. Above this, there is a wooden bracketed cornice.
On the first floor, there is a large bow window with sashes and glazing bars, along with two recessed sashes that also have glazing bars. The second floor features two more recessed sashes with glazing bars, each with projecting sills and wedge lintels that have double keystones. The building has stone bands at the first-floor, second-floor, and eaves levels, as well as a moulded stone eaves cornice and a brick parapet above. To the right, there are remains of ashlar gable coping, and the building has end stacks, with the stack on the right being very deep and shared with No. 23.
