Description
No 10 Castlegate is a house that has been converted into a cafe. It likely dates from the 17th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. The exterior is rendered and features a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and two bays. The central entrance consists of an 8-pane door set in a plain surround, flanked by plate-glass windows that have wooden cornices. On the first floor, there is a three-light casement window on the left and a two-light casement window on the right. The building has substantial end ridge stacks, particularly on the right side. Inside, wall-posts are visible on the first floor, and the roof trusses were likely rebuilt in the 19th century. It is believed that this building once served as a blacksmith's premises and stables associated with the Market Place Inn next door.
