Description
The statue of Minerva and its pedestal, located approximately 40 metres east of The Priory, dates from the early 18th century and was restored around 1985 by Andrew Naylor. The sculptor of the statue is unknown. The statue is made of lead and stands on an ashlar pedestal. The overall height is approximately 2.50 metres, featuring a lifesize representation of Minerva in Roman armour, holding a spear in her right hand. The pedestal is rectangular, with a moulded base and cornice, and the statue is not in its original position. This statue is part of a group of early 18th-century lead statues.
