Description

The farm buildings adjoining to the south of Middle Fell Gate Farmhouse are likely from the mid 18th century, with some alterations and additions made in the mid to late 19th century. They are constructed from rubble, primarily limestone, and feature a slate roof. The main barn has large doors with a timber lintel, and the roof above extends out as a canopy. To the right, there is a 19th-century building that projects forward, sharing a pitched roof with the barn. This building has rock-faced quoins and a front wall facing the road that includes timber double doors with plain reveals. The south gable wall has timber double doors set under a segmental arch. The main barn wall to the left of the doorway has two windows with plain reveals and slate-hung timber lintels, along with a pitching door above. The south gable wall also features three shippon doorways with plain reveals, and the roof verge is supported by timber brackets. The interior has not been fully inspected, but the roof trusses consist of tie beams and collars made from hardwood.
