Description
The stone boundary wall at Beckside Cottage dates from the 19th century and features two sets of bee boles. Constructed from rubble Lakeland stone, the wall is built to courses and topped with irregular rough coping stones. At the south-west end, there is a set of five bee boles, which consist of five rectangular chambers divided by shallow upright stones resting on flat padstones. Two long lintol stones span these chambers, supporting additional wall courses and coping stones above. The front faces of the upright stones have been drilled to accommodate fixtures for securing hives against theft. Further to the north-east, there are two larger bee boles with a single upright divider stone, also topped with irregular lintol stones.
