Description

No. 40 Market Street is a shop built in the early 19th century, featuring extensive later alterations. The front is finished in incised stucco with a rusticated corner pilaster on the south side. It has a graduated slate roof and a brick chimney at the end. The building stands three storeys high with two bays. The shop front is from the 20th century and includes a two-storeyed bay window above. Despite the many alterations, it is structurally part of a row that includes nos. 32, 34, 36 Market Street, and the Black Bull, which adds to its group value.
