Description
16 and 16A Queen Street is a house that has been converted into two flats, likely built in the early 19th century. The exterior is finished in stucco with painted stone details and features a slate roof. The building has a double-depth plan and is designed symmetrically, consisting of two storeys above a cellar and three bays. Notable architectural elements include chamfered quoins, a ground-floor sill band, and a moulded stone gutter cornice. The windows are sash style with plain reveals, projecting sills, and moulded label moulds. The cellar openings are framed with painted stone surrounds. The entrance door, accessed by seven sandstone steps with iron railings, has nine raised and fielded panels and is set within a doorcase featuring engaged unfluted Ionic columns, a pulvinated frieze, and a pediment. There are chimneys located on the gables. The original staircase is reported to have been removed when the house was divided into flats.
