Description

This is an early 19th-century shop and offices in Ulverston. The building is stuccoed with a slate roof. It has three storeys and consists of two bays that project forward from the street frontage under a hipped roof, and one bay that is set back to the left. The projecting bays have a shop front on the ground floor, featuring a recessed central doorway and a late 20th-century fascia. The upper windows have narrow painted surrounds and projecting sills. The second-floor windows have glazing bars, while the first-floor windows are sash windows without glazing bars in the lower panes. The shop front extends along both return walls, each featuring a first-floor sash window without glazing bars. The set-back bay has a sash window with glazing bars in a narrow stone surround on the first floor. A ground-floor doorway with a timber surround, incorporating a narrow shop window to the left, is present on the set-back bay, above which is a semicircular moulding. The interior includes an open-string staircase with stick balusters and a mahogany handrail, along with doors featuring reeded and decorated architraves.
