Description

The village stocks, likely dating from the late 17th century, are made of red sandstone and feature wrought iron bars. They are set into a 20th-century plinth. The stocks are a long, narrow stone with hollows designed to accommodate two pairs of legs, complete with corresponding iron leg clamps that are hinged at either end. A central locking pin, which is set in lead, secures the clamps. The stepped 20th-century plinth is made of Penrith red sandstone. These stocks are similar to those found at Kirkoswald, but are more complete.
