Description

This building, known as No. 1 North Scale, is a house that includes converted outbuildings. It is dated 'ILM 1684' and has been altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. The structure is made of roughcast stone with a cement-tile roof and stands two storeys high, featuring a total of five windows on the first floor. The windows have been renewed with casements that include glazing bars.

A 20th-century porch encloses a part-glazed door. To the right of the porch, there is a segmentally-arched window with a projecting sill, followed by external stone steps leading to a door beneath the landing slab. Beyond this is a 20th-century garage door. The left corner of the house is angled and has large windows on each floor with continuous reveals. On the first floor, there is a window above the porch with a projecting sill and a square head, a date stone to the right, and a similar window beyond. There is a recessed window in the position of the door above the external steps and another window over the garage. The house features an end stack on the left and a ridge stack at the junction with the former outbuildings.

Inside, there are two rooms with very low ceilings that retain original transverse beams and common joists. The left end of the house has different floor levels and is of a later date.
