Description
The statue of Lord Frederick Cavendish is located at the junction with North Road in Barrow in Furness. It was unveiled on June 30, 1885, and was sculpted by Albert Bruce Joy. The statue is made of bronze and stands on a granite pedestal, which is set on a three-step plinth. The square pedestal features a Shakespearian inscription on the die. The figure depicts Lord Cavendish wearing an Inverness cape, with his right foot forward and his left hand on his hip. Lord Cavendish was the second son of the seventh Duke of Devonshire and served as Irish Secretary before he was assassinated at Phoenix Park, Dublin, in 1882. The statue was unveiled by his brother, Lord Spencer, and was originally located opposite the Town Hall.
