Blue Bell Hotel

The Blue Bell Hotel is a Grade II listed hotel located on the east side of the A686 in Alston, dated 1680 and 1746, with later additions and alterations. The original building on the right features ashlar stone with rusticated quoins, a first-floor band, and a chamfered rubble plinth. The extension to the left is constructed from coursed, squared rubble with quoins. The entire structure has a graduated stone flag roof and stone chimneys.

The original symmetrical front is two stories high and has three bays, with two steps leading up to a central panelled door. There are tripartite sash windows on either side of the door on both floors, with a central sash window on the first floor. All windows are fitted with glazing bars. The two-storey, three-bay extension has a recessed panelled door accessed by steps, with two paired sash windows to the right and one above, adjacent to a canted wooden oriel window. A date of 1680 is inscribed on a reset lintel at the rear, while a date of 1746 is found on a lintel that remains in situ, both of which are now located internally.
