Description
Howbarrow Farmhouse is an 18th-century farmhouse located in Lower Allithwaite. It is constructed of roughcast stone rubble, although the roughcast is falling off as of 1987, and features a slate roof. The building is two storeys high and has three bays. The windows are sashed with single glazing bars, with the window in the first bay of the ground floor featuring a paired sash and a slated lintel. The third bay has blocked segmental-headed windows. The entrance is marked by a flat bracketed canopy above a six-panel door. There are gable-end stacks, and a single-storey range extends to the left return. At the rear, there is a gabled wing with a corbelled gable-end stack that has a round shaft. The first bay includes a three-light single-chamfered-mullioned window. Inside, the farmhouse has principal rafters with curved bases and may contain hidden spice cupboards with doors.
