Description
Pear Tree Cottage and Upper Pear Tree Cottage are two houses dated 1862, located in Lower Holker. They are built from roughcast stone and feature slate roofs. The buildings are three storeys high with three bays, although the first bay is only two storeys. There is a lean-to outshut on the right side. The windows have label moulds above roughcast lintels and include two-light casements, with one three-light window in the ground floor of the third bay. The iron glazing bars display an octagon and square pattern typical of the Holker estate. The top floor windows have gablets with decorative bargeboards and finials. The entrance is situated between the second and third bays, featuring an overlight, a boarded door, and an open timber gabled porch. The outshut has decorative bargeboards and a casement window without a label. There are three gable-end stacks. The right return has two gabled half dormers with decorative bargeboards and similar casement windows. The rear consists of three bays; the first two bays are two storeys and resemble the front, with a central entrance and no labels on the windows. The third bay is one storey with an outshut under a catslide roof and has no windows.
