Description
The stable building located to the south-east of Holker Hall, dated 1864, is now used as a café and flats. It is constructed of stone rubble with ashlar dressings and features slate roofs. The building has a U-shaped plan, with a two-storey, five-bay south-west facade and lower wings that are two storeys high with three bays. The left wing includes a single-storey bay extension.
The windows and entrance have chamfered reveals, with ground floor windows featuring flat relieving arches and cross-casements. The first floor has a central window beneath a gablet adorned with decorative bargeboards and finials, as well as a three-light casement where the central light is elevated. The first and fifth bays have small-paned casements under gablets similar to the central bay, while the other bays contain small boarded windows. There are three entrances with boarded doors and large overlights.
A central open timber bell turret with a pyramidal roof, a four-faced clock, and a weather vane is a notable feature. The wings mirror the main facade, with small-paned casements on the first floor and segmental-headed coach house doors—three on the left wing, now fitted with 20th-century glazing, and one on the right wing. The gable ends have segmental-headed windows on the first floor, with the right side featuring two mullions. Some gable-end stacks are present, and the outer right return has an external stair leading to a first-floor entrance.
On the north-east facade, there are three loading doors with gablets, the central one having an external stair and a datestone above it. A single-storey range of loose boxes is located at the rear.
