Description

A row of four houses, likely dating from around 1800 and the early to mid-19th century, is located on Daltongate in Ulverston. The houses are constructed with roughcast and rendered exteriors and have slate roofs, with number 21 having artificial slate. Each house is three storeys high, with cellars beneath, and generally has a two-window front, with number 21 being a single bay. Numbers 15 and 17 feature a first-floor sill band. Number 15 has aluminum windows on the ground and first floors set within painted stone surrounds; the attic windows are glazing bar sashes. Two doorways are situated in the left-hand bay, approached by four limestone steps with iron railings. The left-hand door is boarded, and the right-hand door has four flush panels and two glazed panels. Number 17 has glazing bar sashes on the upper floors and a sash window on the ground floor; the doorway is in the right-hand bay. Number 19 has 20th-century casement windows in painted stone surrounds, with segmental heads for those on the ground and first floors. This house features a single window on the ground floor, in the left-hand bay, with the doorway offset to the right. Number 21 has sashes without glazing bars on the ground and first floors, and a 20th-century casement window on the second floor, with its door positioned on the right. The right-hand gable wall has verges projecting on brackets. Chimneys are located between the houses. The buildings are included on the list for their group value.
