Description

Malvern House is a late 18th-century building located in Barrow in Furness, consisting of two attached houses. The structure is made of limewashed stone rubble and features a graduated slate roof, although part of it has been replaced with composition tiles. It has an L-shaped plan and stands two storeys high, with a front elevation that has one window over three on the first floor. The front range of Malvern House has a doorway to the right of the centre, featuring a six-panelled door framed by a wooden architrave and topped with an ashlar cornice on consoles, all set within a trellised wooden porch. The windows include 16-pane sashes with painted surrounds and projecting stone sills, a tripartite window to the right of the door, and a 20-pane sash window at the far left. The building has shaped gutter blocks and both end and ridge stacks, with the ridge stack positioned to the left of centre. The left return of the building features a much-altered rear wing, which has a small doorway and 20th-century casements with glazing bars, along with end stacks and one ridge stack. The rear wing functions as a separate dwelling known as No.1 New Barns Village.
