Description
Hector Cottage and Hector House are two dwellings that were originally one house, likely built in the 18th century and refronted in the 19th century. The exterior features scored stucco and a graduated slate roof. The building is two storeys high and has three bays, with a wing extending to the rear left, which is now Hector Cottage, along with some additions in the angle.
The structure has a plinth and raised quoins. The central doorway is framed by an ashlar architrave with a cornice supported by consoles, and there is a plaque above that reads 'HECTOR HOUSE'. The windows are 20th-century casements with glazing bars, set in shaped surrounds with projecting sills. The building also has an ogee cast-iron gutter on blocks, shaped kneelers (though the copings have been removed), and end stacks.
On the left side of the building, the gable of Hector House features a small window with a surround similar to that of the front. In the rear wing, Hector Cottage has a part-glazed door in an ashlar surround, supported by shaped stone brackets for a later canopy. There are 20th-century casements to the left and another in the centre of the first floor, both with surrounds that reflect the earlier proportions of the openings, as well as end stacks.
