Description

Number 20 is a farmhouse located on Walney Island, dated 'WBM 1728', with an attached front garden wall, barn, and shippons. The house features scored stucco over red sandstone and a graduated slate roof, while the outbuildings are made of exposed rubble. The farmhouse has two storeys with two windows on the first floor. The barn shares the same roofline as the house and has shippons at its left end, accessible due to the falling ground level.

The house has a central part-glazed door set in a cemented surround, topped with a moulded sandstone slab supported by shaped brackets. It also has projecting sills for its four-pane sash windows and a date plaque above the door. There are end stacks on the house. The front garden wall encloses a rectangular area and features ashlar corner piers, copings, and shaped gateposts.

The barn has a large opening near the house, which includes quoins and 20th-century garage doors beneath a blind panel and wooden lintel. The shippons on the left have an altered doorway and window, both with segmental arches. The left end of the barn roof is detailed with kneelers and gable copings.
