Description
Number 153 is a farmhouse with attached farm buildings, dating from the early to mid-18th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. The structure is built of rubble stone, with the farmhouse covered by scored stucco and features graduated slate roofs. It is a two-storey building with a two-room plan and a rear wing. The farm buildings extend under the same roofline and then return, stepping down to enclose a U-shaped yard.
The farmhouse has a central part-glazed door set in a thin stone-slab surround. To the left of the door is a low window, likely in the position of a former mullioned window, while to the right are two tall casement windows. On the first floor, there are twin four-pane sash windows and a single four-pane sash window. The building features shaped stone gutter brackets and end stacks, with the left stack suggesting a corbelled or external stack within the attached farm building.
The farm buildings include a roughcast range that shares the same roofline as the house, which has a boarded door with an overlight and a first-floor doorway that has been converted into a casement window. There is a barn at right angles to the farmhouse, featuring boarded doors accessed by ramped paving and a row of pigeon holes beneath the eaves. Projecting from the left end of the barn is a stable block with a slotted door under a basket arch, flanked by small windows in quoined openings. A lean-to against the gable has a slotted door and a brick stack. At the rear of the barn, there is a slated door canopy supported by brackets. The interior has not been inspected.
